Mission Statement

Our mission is to raise awareness of the orphan crisis in our community, in our state, and world-wide by providing information and resources to those who desire to care for orphans through foster care, adoption, or by being involved in a child's life while constantly reaching out to foster families in our community and helping to support them in a variety of ways..

How We Help

The Build-a-Bridge adoption ministry follows the mandate that God gave us in Isaiah 1:17 to "Defend the Fatherless." We are a voice for those who have no voice. We provide encouragement, information, and resources to those who are interested in caring for orphans by adopting or becoming foster parents.

Build-a-Bridge also partners with local organizations in order to help meet a variety of needs, in addition to adoption and fostering, for foster children in our community. Some of those things include collections throughout the year for school supplies, clothing items, and gift cards as well as providing for Christmas wish lists of local foster kids. Build-a-Bridge also encourages and assists people who want to be involved in a child’s life through organized mentorship programs.

Education

In the state of Missouri alone, there are 10,000 children in the foster care system. Approximately 1,400 of those kids are on the waiting list for their forever home. There are over 25 million orphaned children worldwide and there are over 100 million children worldwide on the streets. Most orphanages age out at 18-years old. That means those children have to leave and begin making it on their own. Currently, there are over 2,000 homeless young people in St. Louis.

Resources

We have resources to help with in-country adoptions, whether from a private agency or adoption from the foster care system. Here are some links to other great organizations that we partner with to help fight the fight to "care for orphans" (James 1:27 NKJV) in St. Louis and across the globe. Please visit their Websites and contact us if you have any questions we can assist you with.

Testimonials

The Walls Family

"Build-a-Bridge ministry has had a profound effect on our lives. Before we started our adoption process, we had countless questions and concerns. We knew nothing about adopting and felt it was something that only other people did and that it was much too big for us to take on. Immediately, Mike and Shelley, leaders of Build-a-Bridge, went out of their way to help us. We had several lengthy conversations on the phone that helped answer numerous questions for us. When things looked financially impossible, Mike and Shelley were there to encourage and remind us, if God had called us to adopt, He would make a way. When the paperwork seemed overwhelming, they offered to go with us to get papers approved and signed. Mike and Shelley were constantly there to build us up, support us, and pray with us. As we look back on our adoption journey, it is clear to us that we could not have done it without the faithful support that the Build-a-Bridge ministry provided. We thank God for their obedience, and we also thank God for calling our family to the beauty of adopting." – The Walls family (Rick, Lucy, and Hope)

The Wozniak Family

"Adopting is an experience we wish everyone could go through. It changed our lives and our family. We have been so blessed. God has opened doors for us and made provisions when there seemed to be no way. We knew the children living at home with us would be greatly affected by the adoption and that was a concern for us. However, they became very excited and embraced our adopted daughter right from the beginning. There is a strong bond that all the kids continue to share, even today—over seven years later." – Mike and Shelley Wozniak
